It is serviceable to have this collection back in print after eighty-six years in a readable, inexpensive edition with an informative introduction and a serviceable slightly expanded index. The widow of the famous bard Alice Moore Dunbar was herself an accomplished writer and a polished public speaker. The fifty-one speeches readyed here include not only the familiar stentorian voices of Douglass, Langston (Charles H and John Mercer) Elliott, Harper, Garnet, Pinchback, Crummell Washington, Grimke, Moton, Kelley Miller, Dunbar herself, and Du Bois, if it were not that numerous other orators less familiar": Hilary Teague, Josephine St Pierre Ruffin, James Madison Vance, Christian A.
